Glam Desk Accessories

Today is my last day of work! Whaaat!

In celebration of transitioning working from office to home, I put together a few glamorous desk accessories that I’m considering for my home office.  ‘Home office’ sounds super fancy, right? In reality it’s just a plain ol’ desk in my bedroom, which I usually never sit at because our couch is sooo much more comfortable for this pregnant girl right here.  I’m determined to actually use my desk, and what better method to lure myself then deck it out with these gold accessories?

It totally feels weird that today is my last work day and weird that motherhood is just around the corner.  It’s weird that I wont have to think about debits and credits for a while, and that my entire focus will be on a small human being. I’m just so used a long commute, full day’s work, and only caring for my pups, oh and husband of course 🙂

I want to make sure we’re clear on blog expectations here! I’m not going to get all ‘mommy blog’ on y’all, but it’s definitely what’s happening to me right now and I can’t help but share these changes with you.  I’ll be going thru an entire design and DIY process as we work on the nursery, which will be a ton of fun, so hopefully you’ll stick around!

gold dome earrings

gold dome earrings

Inspiration strikes at the most random of times.  For me, it was this morning, as I was getting dressed no less.  I had decided I wanted to wear a pair of earrings {which I rarely do}, to class up my black-pant-white-shirt combo that I threw on last minute.

I wasn’t interested in wearing just any pair of earrings – I wanted to wear something gold and shiny.  I was rummaging through my jewelry stash, which consists of jewelry I’ve made and jewelry I’ve bought… but nothing was catching my eye.  Instead of giving up and going accessory-less, inspiration hit and I scurried to my jewelry supplies to whip something up.

flash back! top 5 by brittanyMakes

Gild Chair 1

A few weeks ago I officially pried myself {and my blog} out of Typepad’s death grip, then dove head first into the heavenly world of WordPress. If anyone has worked with Typepad before, they should know this event is worth celebrating!  Sadly, I was only able to celebrate for a few minutes or so, until I realized I had made the move one step too soon.  The short story is, all my image links broke during the move to WordPress (which you may have noticed when visiting some old posts).  The long, and nontechnical story is, Typepad hates it when bloggers leave so they make it impossible to regain control over your own content.  There are special steps Typepad bloggers need to take prior to the move in order to keep all image links intact, and being a novice at this web design thing, I didn’t realize these special steps existed.  So, if you’re a Typepad blogger and are thinking of making the move to WordPress (which I FULLY recommend!), make sure to do extra research regarding transferring images before you flip the switch.

Now for the fun part! I’m {slowly but surely} going back and re-uploading the images to my old blog posts.  It’s a tremendous feat, but I’m determined to get it done.  I thought it would be fun to reinstate my top posts first, so we can revisit them and see how far this blog has come!

Let’s count down the top 5 posts! { click on the image to be re-directed to the post }

gifts from seattle!

My good friend and her man just took a trip up to Seattle for a quick vaca.  My fiancee travels to Seattle every year for his annual bro’s weekend, sadly, I’ve never been.  I’ve heard so many great things of the city, and I hope to make it out there soon!

It’s no secret that I’m in love with French bulldogs, if you havent met my pup Rocco, check out his cute smushed face here.   My friend was out shopping and stumbled on this ceramic Frenchie stamp and immediately picked it up for me.

{the easiest} chiffon scarf DIY

It’s no secret fall is just around the corner.  My wallet usually quivers around this time of year, it can sense my eagerness to shop for layers, coats, boots, sweaters.. to bundle up in the cool mornings and evenings…  ooh I love fall!

Scarves are quite possibly my favorite accessory to wear during cool weather.  As summer transitions into fall, the weather is not quite cold enough to wear knit scarves.  The solution is to find the perfect light weight, silk, gauze, or chiffon scarf.  I was searching for an oversized silk blend scarf for under $25, which is laughable because silk is expensive, and when I did find one I liked, it was way out of my price range, or the shape of the scarf was too thin.
